备注:Spring Ox with Peace under Heaven Block prints with ^Spring Ox?, as titles were numerous and popular in rural areas for they were incorporated with a calendar of the twenty-four solar terms in weather variations to ensure that the annual round of plowing and sowing were done in time for a rich harvest. In prints of this type there is always one or more spring oxen, hence the name.
The picture features flower gods of the twelve months in a year. On the upper left corner there is a calendar of the twenty-four solar terms in weather variations and on the upper right corner a pattern of the Taoist Eight Diagrams, while in the center is a large glistening gold ingot with an ancient musical instrument, a double coin, a legendary tree shedding coins when shaken and a branch of osmanthus (a pun on the word “distinction”)dotted in between. Within the four Chinese characters “Peace under Heaven” are the Celestial Official of Wealth, bat (a pun on the word “blessings”),the magic weapons of the Eight Immortals in Chinese legend, making the print decorative and rich in content.
