Physical description
Blue and white porcelain with brown exterior. Printed in blue on the inside and in colours on the outside, within medallions over a brown glaze. Mark: a lozenge (Fang-Shêng) in blue. The outside is covered with a light dead-leaf brown or café-au-lait glaze over which have been added four medallions painted alternatively with a long-legged bird and sprays of flowers in crimson, white and green enamel. The inside is painted in underglaze blue with a formal design of six lotus-petal compartments filled with flowers radiating with stems between them, about a central lotus flower. Overdecorated in England, probably Staffordshire, early 18th century.
